The Celebrate Petworth Festival is back for another amazing event on the 800 block of Upshur Street NW starting at 11am. Every year this event gets better and better, and this year will be no exception! Join your neighbors, local vendors and restaurants, and Drew as your emcee for the day (yay!).

12pm Show off your pup’s skills!
There are 5 show categories – four selected by our judges panel and one determined by the audience.

  • Best Dressed: Does your dog dress to impress? Give your pup a chance to show off their fashion style.

  • Early Halloween Costume: Whether you already have this year’s Halloween costume picked out or are dying to re-use last year’s, we can’t wait to see your pup all dressed up.

  • Owner or Dog Sibling Look-a-like: Have people said you and your dog look alike? Or do you have two pups who are twinsies?

  • Coolest Trick: Give your dog a chance to demonstrate their best trick!

  • Audience Favorite: YOU decide who will win Audience Favorite 2022. Attendees will be asked to vote for their favorite by cheering and clapping.

Prizes: $700+ in prizes available, including gift cards to local businesses, dog treats and more.

Petworth has a long history of being a residential neighborhood where people buy homes, raise families and work to create a community. Come to hear local historian C.R. Gibbs talk about changes along Georgia Avenue, listen to powerful poetry by local poets, and hear from local authors and Petworth residents who will share their stories.

  • 12-1 PM: Local Poets | Etta Powers, Angie Whitehurst, Jackie Turner, Veronica Proctor, Blue Phoenix

  • 1-2 PM: Dr. Karen Wilson-Ama'Echefu / Singer, Scholar & Storyteller specializing in the history & culture of Africans in the US

  • 2-2:30 PM: Vocalists Al McCray and Veronica Procter

  • 2:30-3:30 PM: Historian C.R. Gibbs / Petworth History Lecture

  • 3:30-4 PM: Dr. Julianne Robertson presents “A teaching of Swahili Alphabet; a puppet show.

  • 4 - 5 PM: Open Mic / Come share your own story via spoken word, poetry, singing, or public speaking
