Local Halloween events and block parties

It's Halloween time!

Besides going door to door looking for porch lights turned on to find the people giving out candy, there's a number of block parties and other events happening to keep everyone entertained, spooked and safe.

Saturday, October 22 - November 1, 2016

Haunted Grocery Store at The Perch

Runs Oct 22- Nov 1st at the Perch DC (aka Murray's Grocery) at 3400 Georgia Avenue NW.

Enter the haunted grocery store if you dare and, if you make it all the way to the meat section, you may not make it past Murray. Witness how the other half lives as you attempt to shop amongst the creatures of the night. Ages 13 and over recommended. Tickets required.

Halloween Spook-tacular

6-8pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (201 Allison St NW)

Event is free (canned food donations accepted). There will be treats, spooky crafts, pumpkin decoration, cemetery hayrides and more! Event will be held in the Great Hall of the St. Paul's Center. Main entrance on corner of Rock Creek Church Rd and Webster NW.

Halloween Activities at the 14th St & Kennedy Market

9am-Noon at the kids tent 14th & Kennedy St NW

Calling all kids! You’re invited to come in costume to the 14th & Kennedy St farmers market this Saturday, 9am-noon and celebrate Halloween. We'll have Halloween games, a craft activity, and pumpkin decorating (or carving if parents want to help out) while supplies last.  
 


Halloween Storytime

10:30am at the Petworth Library (4200 Kansas Avenue NW)

What was that sound?! Was it coming from the library? Why yes, it's our terrifyingly fun Halloween-themed family storytime.  Dress up in your favorite costume and listen to some spooktacular stories. We'll have a simple craft afterwards that you can take home. No tricks but plenty of treats! For all ages. 

 

Storytime & Halloween Activities at the Petworth Farmers Market

10:30am at the Petworth Farmer's Market
(9th & Upshur Street NW)

Come to market for a mini-Halloween celebration! There will be paper pumpkin decorating, Halloween crafts, spooky storytime at 10:30am, and much more. Everyone is encouraged to wear their costume, too!

Please join us with your pet for the 2016 Annual Petworth Pet Costume Contest! Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place Costumes Contest, plus Food & Beverages

 

10th Annual Celebrate Petworth Halloween Bash

1 pm - 4pm on the 500 Block Taylor Street NW
 
A fun streetparty that closes down Taylor Street between New Hampshire Ave and 5th Street NW. Activities include a moonbouce, pumpkin painting, games, food and more!

 

Varnum Street Halloween Block Party

3pm-8pm on the 100 block of Varnum Street NW

The 100 block of Varnum Street NW will be hosting a Halloween Block Party on Saturday the 29th from 3-8pm. There will be a moon bounce, pumpkin painting, a haunted tent, food, and more! We welcome anyone to stop by! 

 

Buchanan Street Halloween Block Party

5pm - 8:30pm (street will be closed starting at 3:30) at the 1500 block of Buchanan St NW

This is the fourth annual Halloween block party! All are welcome to come. We will have a giant dragon moon bounce in the middle of the street, along with the TUNNEL OF DOOM (cardboard box tunnel maze), a Halloween piñata, food, drinks, costume party, and more! Bring yourselves in costume, preferably!

Sherman Circle Halloween Parade

4pm at Sherman Circle

Come to a Halloween parade on Sherman Circle and enjoy music, apple cider and other treats. Be sure to stop by the Haunted Pirate Ship at 1 Sherman Circle, and then join the fun in the circle. Kids and pets are welcome!

Twisted Horn Halloween Party

4pm - close at Twisted Horn (819 Upshur St NW)

Twisted Horn is throwing a Halloween party and will be handing out candy for great costumes, with the overall best costume winning a $50 gift certificate. Admission is free and we'll have a special Spooky Punch available as well as Happy Hour prices throughout the evening. Apple bobbing will begin once it gets dark outside. (Plus, Rocky Horror Picture Show!)


HALLOWEEN DAY - Monday, October 31, 2016

4:30pm at the Petworth Library (4200 Kansas Avenue NW)

No need to scream or growl if your looking for something fun to do on Halloween! Join us for some ghastly themed music as we sway to a terrifying beat. Join us in the children's room for some karaoke and a simple craft. You can dress in your favorite costume or come as you are. For ages 6 and up.
 

Halloween Party / Parade at the Petworth Rec Center

4-7 PM at Petworth Park (8th and Taylor NW)

We will be parading in costume from the Rec Center to Lighthouse Yoga for some spooky yoga to kick things off! After that we will parade down Upshur, doing a little trick or treating, then back to the Rec Center for the party to continue. Adults and kids in costume are all welcome to participate in the fun! So mark your calendars, with more details to come closer to the date.

 

Shepherd Street Halloween Block Party

6-9pm on the 1400 Block of Shepherd Street NW

Annual healthy living Halloween block party. This event has attracted hundreds in the Petworth and surrounding neighborhoods. We kick off the celebration at 6pm and conclude at 9pm. S'mores, candy apples, activities for all, giant movie screen, healthy snacks, costume parade with prizes for winners and of course LOADS of candy.  All are welcome!

Last year residents of the 1400 Block of Shepherd Street surprised all those present with a Zombie Thriller Flash Mob. 

 

MPD Fourth District Halloween Safe Haven Celebration 

6-9 pm at 6001 Georgia Ave NW (4D Headquarters)

Come join members of the Fourth District for fun, games and prizes. Among other activities, there will be a celebrity look-alike costume contest and talent show.

 

1st Annual Manor Park Front Door / Yard Decorating Contest

Front yard and door Halloween decorating contest in Manor Park. Judging takes place on Halloween. See the flyer for more info.
