Kennedy Street received a Main Streets designation recently, leading to streetscape improvements like new sidewalks, benches and trash cans that make the area mare visually appealing and welcoming. The Kennedy Street Development Corporation led the effort for the designation, and continues to work for community-focused improvements and opportunities. One piece of that are more social gatherings in the area. Here’s two upcoming events:

Tuesday, April 10th 6-8pm

Kennedy Street NW Monthly Happy Hour
ANXO Cidery & Tasting Room
711 Kennedy St NW

Come meet neighbors new and old. Catch up, exchange ideas for your umbrella decorating, make new friends, or just to enjoy a Geri Special!

Saturday, April 14th 11am-1pm

Kennedy Street Umbrella Stroll
Starts at 5th & Kennedy St NW, ends at Jackie Lee's (116 Kennedy St NW)

Join neighbors and businesses on a spring stroll along Kennedy Street NW. Bring your own decorated umbrella and walking/dancing feet! Meet at the pocket park (5th & Kennedy St NW) and stroll along to corridor to show off your umbrella and enjoy the sights of the street. There will be live music and a treasure hunt for gold coins! The stroll will end at Jackie Lee's (116 Kennedy St NW) for an opportunity to snag photos of you and your umbrella at the photo booth. Dance with your neighbors on the new streetscape of Kennedy Street NW, and enjoy some food and drink!

And keep an eye out for more info about the Kennedy Street Festival, coming Saturday, June 9, 2018!

As residents address the changing urban space and the craziness of the holiday season, family issues including parenting and caretaking, mental health needs may get ignored. That’s why Heidi Vanderwerff and Marjorie Strachman Miller started Kennedy Counseling Collective (508 Kennedy Street NW), with the goal of offering an inviting space that fosters a place of mental healing and health. They are committed to helping people find their voice along with the life they want to live as city dwellers.
