The ANCs are different this year, and no one is running for ANC 4C01 (maybe you should?)

Newly Redistricted SMD 4C01 is Looking for a New Commissioner!

No one has registered to run as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner to represent the newly redrawn Single Member District (SMD) 4C01 as of the 10 August deadline.

Earlier this year, Ward 4 was significantly redistricted into six Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC). Each ANC is made up of SMDs which represent approximately 2,000 people. Residents can run to represent their SMD and serve as an ANC Commissioner for the next two years starting in the January 2023 term.

Serving as an ANC Commissioner is a great way to give back to your community and make your neighborhood better for you and your neighbors. SMD 4C01 is particularly important because it includes Powell Elementary School, Dorothy Height Elementary School, Sharpe Health (a current DCPS swing space), McFarland Middle School and Roosevelt High School.

Additionally, it includes both sides of the popular 800 block of Upshur Street NW, Upshur Pool, the Upshur Street and Petworth Recreation Center and the Petworth Library.

While the deadline to be on the official November ballot has passed, it is very easy to run as a write-in candidate. First, you must live in 4C01 beginning on or before September 9th and be a registered DC voter. Next you will need to fill out and notarize this form from the DC Board of Elections (DCBOE) and submit it to them by 4:45pm November 15th. The best way to submit your candidate documents is by mailing it or showing up in person at DC Board of Elections, 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20003-4733.

After that, tell your neighbors to vote for you in the general election on November 8th!

DCBOE will mail each registered DC voter a mail-in ballot, and voters will be able to return their ballots to any drop box location until 8pm on November 8th, or by sending via USPS. And like always, you can always vote in person early or on November 8th!

Any questions can be directed to candidate@dcboe.org or 202-727-2525.
