Park(ing) Day is coming to Kennedy Street from 9-4pm on Friday, September 17th. Originally started in San Francisco, Park(ing) Day is used to reimagine how public spaces like street parking can be activated for people rather than vehicle parking.
Uptown Main Street is creating an urban oasis in front of 713 Kennedy Street for Park(ing) Day this year. They have partnered with local businesses this year to create an urban oasis with café seating.
Greenery will be provided by Lovers Plant Studio and City Blossoms. Music will be provided by HR Records.
There will be a morning coffee station by La Coop Coffee. ANXO opens at 11am with pizza, and they will be pressing apples from 1-2. You also can look forward to sushi, smoothies, soup, and ice cream samples from Mita Cafe, Soup Up and Everyday Sundae.
Lighthouse Yoga and Kennedy Counseling Center will also join the Urban Oasis.
“We look forward to a day of fun-filled festivities as we convert on-street parking spaces into pop-parks as part of Mayor Bowser’s commitment to reimagine how public spaces are used across all eight wards,” said DDOT Acting Director Everett Lott.
Also Uptown Main Street will have clean up supplies on hand and invites neighbors to join in by helping beautifying the block.
Park(ing) Day at Uptown Main Street is a free event and open to the public, and no reservations or tickets are required.
