On the week of April 14-18th, President Lincoln’s Cottage (140 Rock Creek Church Rd NW) will be offering a variety of kid-friendly activities for neighbors looking to “staycation” during the spring school holidays.

We’ll kick off the week with a special “Spring Break” kids’ concert on Monday April 14th at 10:30am with a performance by the iconic children’s band Rocknoceros. as part of our “Monday Fun-Day” concert series for young people and their caregivers.

Each day at noon, the Cottage will offer a “family tour,” a relaxed version of our award-winning Signature Cottage Tour, geared specifically towards children. Families can enjoy the Cottage’s landscape tour, Lincoln’s Wild Home, and a self-guided meditative experience that allows visitors to follow a map and explore the grounds surrounding the Cottage.

While the concert and daily tours are ticketed, the “Crafting Connection” room is a complimentary experience that is open all day for families to connect over crafts, books and puzzles.

We encourage our Petworth neighbors to bring picnics and enjoy the beautiful tables behind the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, or to bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the front lawn of the Cottage where there will also be an assortment of lawn games available for public enjoyment (weather permitting).

Spring Break at President Lincoln’s Cottage honors Tad Lincoln, who lived at the Cottage, explored the grounds, learned from the Bucktail soldiers, and played games with his famous father.

“We hope that families will come enjoy the grounds like the Lincolns’ did during the school holiday,” said Associate Director of Interpretation and Public Programming Cameron Walpole.
