Scoop: DC DGS sells Petworth Rec Center for new $$$ condominiums

Google Street View of the Park at 8th & Taylor Streets NW

Whelp, just heard that the popular Petworth park at 8th and Taylor Streets NW is going to be expensive condominiums.

The park at 8th & Taylor Streets NW is owned by the District government. An anonymous leaker told Petworth News that the park was sold by DC to a private developer (that has not been identified as yet) for an undisclosed amount.

The new building is a very large condominium with the bottom floor going for $800K and the penthouse that takes up the full top level reportedly selling for $3 million or more.

A local business owner said he was happy to have more residents, but extremely disappointed in losing the park for the community. “Everyone loves our food, of course,” said “John A” from a local BBQ restaurant on the corner of Upshur and 8th Streets that asked not be identified. “And we’re happy to have more people living nearby who will visit our restaurant — don’t say the name of the restaurant, okay? Anyway, what kind of fool pays that kind of money for a condo? Seriously? I mean, I’d totally buy a place in the Bahamas instead, you know? Some place with good cigars and bourbon. Anyway, don’t tell anyone I spoke to you.”

The building design was leaked along with the news of the sale. Can’t say I’m surprised.

A mock up of the new building. Only a fool would buy one of these expensive condos…

Stay tuned for more info coming after today, which is of course April 1st.
