It’s all about the neighborhood
This spring a kitchen fire destroyed Fish in the Hood, a popular and venerable restaurant on the Petworth / Park View border. Now, owner Bill White has started a Go Fund Me page to help the restaurant get back on its feet. The Go Fund Me site has raised over $3,000 of its $10,000 goal.

Read MoreOn the summer evening of July 31, 2015, Derrick Black was shot and killed in the Park View neighborhood. He was 23. The Georgia Ave and Lamont Street Public Safety Task Force formed shortly after to focus on public safety as a response to the murder.
The citizens and business owners who live and work in the area wanted to work together to figure out the best ways to address public safety and quality of life concerns in the neighborhood. Once the group was able to begin to address the issues in the neighborhood, they began to ask broader questions and think through the kind of community they wanted. What did they value? What did they want to accomplish?

Owner Pablo Sierra reached out to say they are throwing a party at the store to celebrate from 1pm - 4pm, with a their popular story hour at 2pm. There will be raffles held all day, some tasty cake and other food and drink. And of course, books.

The beer garden boasts wide-open indoor and outdoor space as well as between 15-20 beers on tap, a selection of wines and classic mixed drinks. They have 5 TVs and two 100" projector screens that run Big 10 Network and a wide variety of other sports on an ongoing basis.
The idea for the Midlands was hatched while “Having drinks at Duffy’s [Irish Bar and Pub]. We knew we wanted a large open space with a beer bar with taps as the central point."
