Hey, we're the Best Community Blog in DC! (well, runner up, anyway!)
/The Washington City Paper released the results of the 2017 Best of DC Readers' Poll, and I'm happy to say the Petworth News was the runner-up for Best Community Blog! Big thanks to everyone who voted for us!
Popville took the top spot, with Petworth News and Baby Friendly America being named runner-ups. Considering Popville is Dan's full time job, he deserves the recognition! And since Petworth News is lucky to publish 5-10 articles a week (this being a hobby and not a career), being named runner up in a city full of blogs is pretty darn groovy! Believe it or not, Petworth News has only been around for two years (the website launched June of 2015), and this is our second time being named runner-up for Best Community Blog.
Special thanks to my contributing writers who have helped give Petworth News their varied perspectives and some great coverage: Adrienne Chu, Anne Thiel, Darrell Chambers, Elissa Fuchs, Lois Cooper, Rachel Maisler (who also manages the awesome Community Calendar), Yuliya Panfil and Zina Abdelaziz. You all rock! (Learn about these awesome people on our About page.)
This year alone Petworth News made some great impacts upon the community and broke big news. We...
- Saved Bun Bun!
- Helped pass new animal welfare laws (#Momma)
- Sold a ton of signs!
- Got the word out about Metro shaking houses.
- Named one of the Washington Post's favorite bloggers!
- Have been interviewed by the New York Times, NPR, WAMU, Huffington Post and local TV stations (#humblebrag).
- And so much more.
Everything we write about on this news blog is done with the goal of helping readers feel part of a larger community, and living in a special neighborhood. We hope you feel that goal has been and continues to be successful.
