Learn about mentoring DC students with DCTMI at Zeke's Coffee on Dec 16

The DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative is hosting an event to learn about how to help DC students be the best they can with your help as a mentor.

You’re invited to learn about the tutoring and mentoring needs of our local neighborhoods, and how you can get involved in collectively working towards a better community and future for all of us! Join your neighbors at Zeke's Coffee at 14th and Buchanan on Saturday, December 16th from 11-12pm. (Please RSVP as seating is limited!)

Two out of three DC students are reading below grade level — more than 60,000 kids — nearly one in four are chronically absent at least one day a week. By giving volunteers the opportunity to be part of building a stronger community fabric, we’re making sure that 1) kids who need help receive it, 2) that we encourage local involvement & a collective sense of agency, and 3) that we can all contribute to the overall wellbeing and public safety of our communities – it’s a triple win!

That’s also why we’re so excited to host our event at Zeke’s Coffee, a neighborhood favorite, and hope to keep supporting local businesses as our work continues throughout the District!

Please RSVP to attend >

Founded in 2016, the DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative (DCTMI) has recruited more than 3,000 volunteers in 2023 for our 50+ non-profit partner organizations and schools. These volunteers go on to serve through our partner organizations as “big brothers and sisters.” Mentors help high school students navigate the challenges of young adulthood, tutors help elementary school students improve their reading and math skills, and much more.

Our Vision is for at least 1 in 10 DC adults to get involved as a tutor or mentor, so every student has access to extra support. We believe this strengthens schools, fosters community, and advances equity across our city.
