The Petworth Main Street is looking for a new Deputy Director to run the organization and help the community continue to grow and succeed.

Main Streets are local non-profit organizations funded by DC government to support and enhance businesses and communities from a hyperlocal perspective. They do great work for long-time established businesses that have been historically overlooked by DC as well as new businesses looking to get help.

Existing Main Streets like District Bridges, Lower Georgia Avenue, Uptown Main Street, Upper Georgia Avenue Main Streets and the Parks Main Streets all provide service in or around the Petworth area, supporting businesses and events like Celebrate Petworth.

After its initial set up, the Petworth Main Street is looking for a permanent leader. Interested?

What’s expected of the Deputy Director? The Deputy Director is the on-site staff person responsible for supervising program activities, coordinating consultants and volunteers, and supporting the continued revitalization of the community. The position is full-time and there’s some evenings and weekends involved. While the Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director (ED), s/he will develop and maintain an insider’s knowledge of local businesses, policy issues, and funding opportunities. As part of this partnership, the Deputy Director is responsible for the management and development of relationships with key stakeholders in the corridor to include business owners, residents, nonprofit leaders, government leaders, and community leaders.

It’s not like other jobs: it is a mix of entrepreneur, Peace Corps volunteer, urban planner, real estate agent and wedding planner. Qualified candidates should have strong customer relations skills. The Deputy Director is respected for working across many cultures and operating in a transparent, inclusive, and ethical manner.

Petworth Main Street Service Area: The area includes Upshur Avenue NW from 8th Street to 13th Street, and Georgia Avenue NW from Upshur Street to Missouri Avenue. The secondary service area is called Uptown and includes all of Kennedy Street NW and 14th Street NW between Spring Road and Kennedy Street NW.
