"First Friday" event this week, enjoy great sales, holiday windows and artwork along Upshur Street
/The Petworth Arts Collaborative will kick off their first First Fridays event on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. "First Fridays" will showcase different styles of art, performance and visual, in unconventional and unique places along the 800 block of Upshur Street. Businesses in the area will be offering discounts and sales, while featuring different artists in their stores.
Plus, for the second year in a row, some of the businesses along the 800 block of Upshur will showcase special window displays decorated for the holidays.
Definitely worth checking out.
The Collaborative is asking everyone who attends the event on December 2nd from the hours of 6:00pm-8:00pm to bring items that are brand new and in season to be donated.
We hope you will join us to celebrate our eclectic neighborhood, through an arts experience, while supporting our local establishments and giving back to others. Each month First Friday will not only showcase artists but also collect materials to help organizations in need. First on our list for support are the patients at the Children’s Hospital (see a list of desired donations).

The Petworth Arts Collaborative focuses on community engagement through the arts by bringing artists and enthusiasts together to create local programs and events in Petworth.
The creation of the Petworth Arts Collaborative was spearheaded by the founder of the Petworth Dance series, Sara Herrera. After closing out the second season of this free outdoor dance series, Sara, wanted to do more. A fellow Petworth resident and DC dance artist, Sara sought out enthusiastic neighbors, boosting the collective energy and ideas to diversify programming.
The Petworth Arts Collaborative team includes; Leslie Griffith, Sara Herrera, Safisha Mance, Maria Mandle and Cathy Oh. A strong group of individuals dedicated to making art more accessible while promoting the businesses and vitality of the Petworth community.
