Tis the season of change... the Lemon Collective to move out of 810 Upshur Street
/The Lemon Collective will move out of 810 Upshur Street at the end of the month. This storefront has had a few different lives, most recently as Bentley’s Antiques and Collectibles before it changed to the Collective. According to co-owner Holley Simmons, they will continue to give classes and training sessions, but now only at client locations. The storefront will close on February 29th.
“After four years of managing a space (we were on Georgia Ave for three years), we’re exploring a more mobile model,” Holley said.
The Lemon Collective was started started three years ago in Park View by Simmons, Linny Giffin and Kathryn Zaremba as a space where people can take classes, make art, and let their creative juices flow. They host events almost every night, offering everything from embroidery and flower arranging to making perfumes and building cheeseboards.
Most of their classes were in the evening, meaning the retail space on Upshur sat empty most of the day. The owners have decided to focus on their client-based classes.
“We’re transitioning away from ticketed events and hosting workshops, and are going forward towards private events at offices (team building, staff appreciation, stuff like that) and private classes held at restaurants and other partnerships throughout DC (bachelorette parties, birthday parties),” Holley said.
“We’ll continue to host classes and connect teachers with potential gigs, but won’t have an active calendar or sell tickets,” she added.
Holley also owns She Loves Me, the flower shop at 808 Upshur Street, and has no plans on changing that store.
