Grab and go "Little Food Studio" opens on Upshur Street
/by Jillian Stringer
Danielle Harris, owner and chef, was tight-lipped on what the concept for Little Food Studio was. For months she teased the neighborhood with posts on social media from “Little shop. Big flavors" to an image of the exterior of the building being painted green. I myself was so curious, I couldn't help but message Little Food Studio to find out more.
A few weeks before their opening I had the pleasure of speaking to Danielle, or “Chef DMH” as she's known in the industry. Drum roll please: What is Little Food Studio? A grab-and-go cafe. They will roast their own coffee, bake their own pastries and cookies, and even bake the bread they use on their sandwiches. They will be open for breakfast and lunch, and for any coffee or snack needs in between.
Who is Chef DMH? She's a proud LGBTQ Black business owner. As a child, her love of Italian food got her into the kitchen. Then in high school, she worked as a dishwasher. Eventually, she found herself learning under Iron Chef Stephanie Izard in Chicago. Then on to DC she went. Chef DMH has a catering company, District Graze, where she will prep for catering events.
When asked what she hoped to bring to Petworth, Chef DMH replied that she hopes it will be a place where all people feel welcome to come grab a drink or bite to eat.
While there won't be a dine-in seating area for now, that could change in the future. She also mentioned she would love to teach others to cook through cooking events or classes once we are in the clear from Covid-19.
Little Food Studio opened on March 14th. Stop by and support their new shop!
