A new farmers market opens at Hook Hall in Park View, and it looks great
/There’s a new indoor farmers market just opened in Park View, and it looks great. Founders (and husband and wife team) Chuck Brodsky and Michelle Harburg left their previously successful jobs to make a change in their lives, and opened the Park View Farmers Market inside Hook Hall (3400 Georgia Avenue NW).
“Hook Hall provides a reliable place to shop year-round,” Chuck said. "There's no two ways about it," Chuck said. "This farmers market exists only through the good grace of Hook Hall. Nobody opens a farmers' market to make money, right? Farmers don't pay a lot to sell beets. What's critical to Hook Hall is that they be a good neighbor, a good part of their community. Part of that is giving very valuable space to a farmers market."
"We want to be really local, focused on our community," Chuck said. He said they are actively raising funds for Park View Housing Authority, WIC and SNAP and other benefits. “There are 4,250 residents in Park View, and we'll do matching dollars and empowering the community economically to support it.”
They claim the market has the largest seafood and meat counters in Northwest DC (80 running feet for the meat counter, 50 feet for seafood), in addition to vendors offering staples like produce, bread, bakery items, honey and vegetarian options.
“Plus, Hook Hall will feature a menu on market day that will showcase the foods grown by our vendors. The vendor selections we’ve made are very, very specific. We took a lot of time and effort to identify a group of people that didn’t just sell stuff, but they lived it,” Chuck said. “These are generational producers.”
Some of the vendors at the market include:
Black Rock Orchard
EcoFriendly Foods
Just AJs Foods
MASTIHA | Artisan Greek Bakery
RavenHook Bakehouse
Sugar Bottom Farm
Beef Barons
In a Pickle
Captain Franks Seafood
Nano Salad
Colby Clothing
Greenacre Family Farmstead
Migues Minis
A very family-friendly venue, there will be performance art and local music at the market as they get their feet under them. They also will have a dedicated area “stroller swap/exchange” for local parents, along with toys and books swaps, allowing neighbors to responsibly recycle needed items within the community.
The Park View Farmers Market is open every Sunday, 9am - 2pm inside Hook Hall (3400 Georgia Avenue NW).
