Your DC residential parking permit is going to be more expensive

The DC Department of Transportation announced that Residential Parking Permit fees are going up on June 1st.

DDOT says that RPP fees have been $35 a year for the past decade, and now they’re launching a new tiered approach to parking permits that raises fees based on the number of vehicles being registered for a permit per mailing address.

The annual fee for a one-year RPP sticker is going up to $50, with higher fees applying to other vehicles.

“The RPP allows any DC DMV-registered private vehicle, or vehicle with reciprocity, to be parked without restriction in the permit area of the vehicle’s registered address. To be eligible for an RPP, a resident’s street must be zoned for RPP,” announced DDOT.

The new RPP one-year annual fees are:

  • $50 for the first vehicle

  • $75 for the second vehicle

  • $100 for the third vehicle

  • $150 for each vehicle beyond the first three vehicles

An exemption for residents 65 years of age or older — one exemption per household
Residents 65 and older will pay a $35 annual fee for the first vehicle registered at a legal mailing address, while the fee for each subsequent vehicle registered at that mailing address will follow the same higher-tiered fees.

“While the cost for many goods and services has increased significantly over the past 10 year, RPP fees have remained unchanged since 2011,” said DC DMV Director Gabriel Robinson. “We believe the new RPP fee structure is fair and equitable for residents who want to park one or more vehicles without restriction in the permit area of their registered address.”

The RPP fee structure was amended through Subtitle H of legislation enacted September 11, 2019 that amended D.C. Municipal Regulation Title 18 § 2415.3.
