Party Time for kids is coming to Petworth with a focus on educational play & learning
/Jasmine Byrd knows how to throw a party — that is, mixing a science-based, educational party with creativity and STEM learning for children. For the past five years, Jasmine has been working with local charter schools on after-school programs for kids in Pre-K 3 to 5th grade, and now is opening a store called Party Time STEAMing Engineers at 205 Upshur Street later in December.
"Many people have heard of STEM in schools, but we're doing something more. With STEAMing, we're creating a curriculum to program for experiments, arts and engineering with a hands-on approach," Jasmine said. "So it's STEAM - science, technology, engineering, arts and math, for kids aged 2 to 12 years old."
The new "maker space" will engage kids with activities they love, like creating slime, painting, working with Legos, baking and more. Party Time will offer both regular class packages, and "guided drop-offs" and "do what you want" one-hour sessions.
Jasmine brings 10 years experience in party planning, and five in childhood development, along with an in-progress Masters in Education Policy and Leadership from American University. She's excited to use her experience to open a location in Petworth to give kids — and parents — a place to go to explore and learn, while having fun.
"Party Time STEAMing Engineers is focused on helping to create independence and autonomous play for children, giving them a safe space to gain learn and explore," said Jasmine.
Party Time STEAMing Engineers is set to soft-open on December 23rd, with a grand opening later in January. You can reach Jasmine via email with any questions.
