Facepainting is always popular at the Powell Spring Carnival.

The Powell Elementary Spring Carnival is Saturday, May 20th from 10am - 3pm on the Roosevelt High School football field. This is the third year for the Carnival, and it promises to be even bigger with more events and fun for the entire Petworth neighborhood, kids and adults alike!

Your friendly neighborhood blogger might have been asked to volunteer for the dunk tank... we'll see about that! I think I'll be too busy eating and taking pictures...

Some of the events include:

Climbing Wall
Moon Bounces for younger and older kids
Carnival Games and prizes for kids
Powell Teachers vs Parents soccer classic
Sno-Cones, Popcorn, Hotdogs and other treats
Live performances from the Petworth Dance Project and others!

Even in the face of summer thunderstorms, the parents group of Powell Elementary managed to put on a very successful (and crowded!) Spring Carnival at the Roosevelt High School gym. Get ready to place your bids! Powell Bilingual Elementary School’s online auction is up and running to support the teachers, students and upcoming Spring Carnival on May 20th. There are roughly 80 items to bid on — everything from gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, theater tickets, and parties and activities for kids and adults. Not to mention Disney World park passes and a chance for you and your friends to share a meal with Powell alumnus Diane Rehm.

Powell Carnival full of fun, sun and kids

The Powell Carnival is going on at Upshur Street Park (at the basketball courts until 4pm).

There's a bouncy house, games, food and lots of neighbors and Powell parents with their kids. Councilmember Todd and his Director of Constituent Services Jackson Carnes were there (Todd even bought a Powell Elementary shirt). Carla Ferris, co-president of the Powell parents group, was doing great running the hoola hoop contest, while her husband Horacio Artiga made some outstanding hot dogs.

Andy Rowe, co-president of the Powell parents group, said "Turnout today has been great. We have folks from the school and from the neighborhood. It's been a great time!"
