Volunteer at Grant Circle for National Public Lands Day on Sunday the 23rd

Grant Circle Quilt #2” by Nikolas Schiller

Saturday, September 22nd is National Public Lands Day, celebrated by the National Park Service and other federal land management agencies and non-profits.

Here in Petworth, neighbor Carol Herwig, who regularly cleans up Grant Circle, is planning a clean-up of the small triangular park north of Grant Circle (between 5th and Illinois Ave) on Sunday, September 22nd at 10am. (With the other NPLD events on Saturday, Carol is hoping people will come out on Sunday to help with the local clean-up.)

Volunteers will pick up trash, remove dead shrubs and address dead and dying trees (inventory and making a list for replacements). “Come with gloves and pruners if you have them,” Carol said. “We will supply trash bags and pruning guidance.”

Work should be completed by noon.

You can contact Carol Herwig with questions.

(And check out the awesome image above of Grant Circle I found by Nikolas Schiller. He creates “quilt” images from satellite photos. You can seem more on his website.)
