A fire in the afternoon leaves a family devastated
/Around 3:10pm in the afternoon of Tuesday, September 14th, a fire broke out at between Georgia Ave and Warder Streets NW. The house at 719 Quebec Place was on fire, with smoke pouring from the upstairs windows.
DC Fire arrived 4 minutes after the 911 call came in to see smoke billowing out of the second story windows. They fought the blaze, putting out the fire in less than 8 minutes.
There were working smoke detectors that went off, alerting the residents to get out — about 8 people were able to flee. But unfortunately, not everyone made it out. Two minutes after the fire was extinguished, DC Fire brought out the body of a 7-year old girl. Sadly, she later died of her injuries. No word on what started the fire.
The grandparents of the Thomas family are organizing a GoFundMe to help the family cope financially during this time as they also lost their possessions in the fire. They’re asking for contributions from the community.
