Timber Pizza opens a pop-up on the 200 block of Upshur

Timber served breakfast during the morning of PorchFest on April 27th

Timber Pizza’s sorely missed breakfast biscuit sandwiches are back, now at 201 Upshur Street NW, just a few blocks up the hill from their first restaurant at 809 Upshur Street NW.

On Sunday morning, April 27th, the newly repainted pizza shop was slinging breakfast empanadas, biscuits and croissant sandwiches out of the former Slash Run space.

Timber purchased the building a few months ago to use as a distribution facility and management space, and says it plans to host breakfast and other pop ups, pizza-making classes and potentially offer the space for private rentals.

Fans of Nick’s Pizza at 223 Upshur Street don’t need to worry: Timber manager Maya Williams said this Timber location will not serve pizza so as not to cannibalize business from its neighbor down the block.

Williams said the Timber team has renovated the kitchen, obtained a liquor license and is sprucing up the popular former dive bar’s interior. They’ll soon open the restaurant’s indoor space to the public, but for now are running to-go service and offering seating on the outdoor patio.

“In the longer term, we are considering how to best make this a space to serve the community,” Timber CEO Luke Watson said. “Potentially a rentable private event space for relatively informal events, pizza-making classes, happy hours, etc.”

More details to come, including a regular pop up schedule.

The repainted Slash Run is now a second location for Timber Pizza, but won’t be serving pizza at the space at 201 Upshur Street NW.
