"Truth Among Liars" culture & art house pops up on Upshur for 12 days only

What is true, what is exaggeration, and where does art intersect?

Tom Pipkin, the creator of the local favorite Petworth Jazz Project, and the force behind the Celebrate Petworth Festival and the Petworth mural, is doing more than just asking those questions.

Starting May 30th and going until June 9th, he's opening "Truth Among Liars," an art and cultural pop up on Upshur Street that will address the apparent absurdity of the answers. Every night is a different theme, and each night is going to be a cool experience.

Truth Among Liars kicks off on May 30th at 810 Upshur Street (formerly Bentley's Antiques) featuring artwork from Frankie Abralind, Matt Corrado, Cita Sadeli CHELOVE, E$ (Eric Dolgas), Andrew Funk, Jeff Huntington, Mas Paz, and Juan Pineda (who painted the Petworth mural), as well as special programming all week.

A good portion of the artwork on display has been created just for the Truth Among Liars events, and most of the art will be for sale.

You'll find music and a bar when you visit, thanks to a temporary alcohol license, along with some really creative drinks (and drinking "puzzles"). The events are free to attend and enjoy the art and music, and two are ticketed: the political paint nights and a three-show fundraiser -- tickets are very limited, so get them quick.

The last day on June 9th is the fundraiser for the Petworth Jazz Project, and you should definitely come out to support that crown jewel of our neighborhood!

Open every night 6pm-midnight, with a different theme each night.

"The fleeting nature of the 'pop up' gallery and event space lends itself to a certain freedom not found in more traditional venues," said Tom Pipkin. "We're presenting a fresh creative place for our community to enjoy, question, dance, critique, and generally enjoy themselves in, all while supporting local arts culture."
