The Wammies music awards return invigorated and reinvested in the local DC music scene
/The Wammie Awards Returns with Two-Day Experience
31-year-old Music Celebration to Highlight DC Artists & Musicians with Conference and Awards Show
The MusicianShip, a charitable non-profit organization that facilitates music lessons, experiences and opportunities, announces The Wammie Awards’ new two-day experience. Wammie Weekend will start with a Day Conference on Saturday, March 30th and culminate with The Wammie Awards show on March 31st. The DC-focused award show has celebrated DC-area artists and musicians for their artistic works over three decades.
"We are proud to preserve this storied award show,” says Jeffery Tribble Jr., Executive Director, The MusicianShip. “We are also incredibly proud to introduce it to a new generation of diverse, enthusiastic, and exciting DMV artists.”
The conference offers seminars and networking opportunities with over 60 music industry professionals, 20 hours of music education track content, and live music all day. Wammie Weekend kicks off on March 30th with the day conference at Decades Nightclub, and ends on March 31st with the 2019 Wammie Awards Show at The Lincoln Theatre.
Nominations for the 2019 Wammie Awards were for music releases debuted in the calendar year of 2018 between January 1st and December 31st. The public, residing in DC, Maryland or Virginia, were encouraged to nominate their favorite DC artists, bands, and musicians. Nominations ended on January 31, 2019 and finalists will be announced in early March.
Award categories include Artist and General Interest. The artist categories cover a large fabric of music including, Acapella, Bluegrass, Blues, Classical, Country, Gospel, Jazz, Rock, R&B, and more. The Wammie Awards helps raise money for The MusicianShip’s free-of-charge music programs, this year serving over 1600 youth, and continues to be a resource for local DC artists and musicians.
