Lulabelle's Sweet Shop coming to Upshur Street

Julie Wineinger, who owns Willow Fashion on Upshur Street, finally announced the upcoming opening of her latest Petworth business, Lulabelle's Sweet Shop at 847 Upshur Street NW. This location has had many different restaurants and businesses call it home over the years, most recently the perplexing "Dinner Lab," and then sat vacant for quite some time. Having an experienced and extremely community-focused resident like Julie give this location new life is outstanding. Expect to find coffee, ice cream, gifts, greeting cards and plenty of sweets.

We  are excited to announce that Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop will soon join the mix of great Upshur Street businesses in Petworth! Lulabelle’s is a collaboration between Julie Wineinger of Willow and Emily Friedberg and Jeanlouise Conaway of Each Peach Market in Mt. Pleasant.

Opening later this summer, Lulabelle’s will serve coffee, ice cream, sweet treats, grab and go sandwiches and salads, AND will carry a whole array of fabulous gift items, greeting cards, stationery and other sundries.

“We are so thrilled to be opening in Petworth,” says Friedberg “I’m a resident and we’ve always loved this neighborhood. We will be building on what we do at Each Peach with the sandwiches and salads and are excited to serve this community with coffee, ice cream, and sweets!”

“After six years on Upshur Street, I’ve been waiting for the right moment to expand,” adds Wineinger. “ I saw the need for a larger gift selection but lacked the space and  ice cream is always at the top of the list when Petworth residents are asked what type of business they would like to see in the neighborhood. Lulabelle’s is going to be a great compliment to Willow.”

“Lulabelle’s will have a little something for everyone,” says Conaway. “Eventually, we’re planning to make our signature bakery items in this space as well- which we’re branding La Peche. The dream is to have a yummy line of goodies including custom order birthday cakes! There is just so much potential.”

Lulabelle’s will be co-sponsoring Petworth Jazz Night on Saturday, July 29th and giving out free ice cream until we run out. Come say hello and tell us what flavor of ice cream is your favorite!

Help-U-Sell Real Estate is beginning a major reconstruction project at their building at 843 Upshur Street, the second time this building has gone through improvements. The tall green building on Upshur, which is also home to Willow Fashion and the Petworth mural, will add a third floor and is expanding into the back of the lot along the alley to add more office space.
