President Obama visits Petworth for the third time
/Upshur Street Books got its most prominent customers today around 1pm when President Obama and his two daughters stopped by the local bookstore to shop for books on Small Business Saturday.
According to Paul Ruppert, owner of Upshur Street Books, "Two customers were browsing at noon today and one looked at her watch and then approached Anna (the manager) and said, 'The President will be here in 20 minutes. Can I help you do anything to prepare?'"
By the way, here's what the family bought:
"Purity: A Novel" by Jonathan Franzen
"Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights: A Novel" by Salman Rushdie
"Elske: A Novel of the Kingdom" by Cynthia Voigt
"On Fortune's Wheel" by Cynthia Voigt
"Jackaroo: A Novel of the Kingdom" by Cynthia Voigt
"A Snicker of Magic" by Natalie Lloyd
"Stargirl" by Jerry Spinelli
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck, Book 8" by Jeff Kinney
"Dork Diaries 1: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life" by Rachel Renée Russell
This is the third time President Obama has visited Petworth. The first time was back in March of 2014 when he paid a visit to Powell Elementary to announce his 2015 budget.
Then in January of 2015, he visited the Boys & Girls Club at 801 Shepherd Street NW to honor the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Congrats to Anna, Ruppert and Upshur Street Books for representing Petworth so well!
Clearly, Petworth rocks.
