Good news, swimmers! Roosevelt pool opens to the public
/After more than five years of discussion, debate, finding the money, COVID-19 and finally construction, the indoor pool at Roosevelt High School is finally ready to open to the public.
The Department of Parks & Recreation will open the pool on Monday, November 15th starting at 6am. The hours are different than some other DPR pools, since this pool is primarily for use of students during the school day. The pool will be available to residents before and after school. The hours will be:
Monday – Friday from 6am-8am, and then again 5pm-9pm.
Roosevelt pool will NOT be open on Saturdays. The Roosevelt pool will be closed on holidays but open on DCPS professional development days.
The capacity for the pool is 250 with no COVID-related restrictions except that masks are required for all people over 2 years old who are not swimming or engaging in vigorous exercise. Showers and lockers will be available for use.
The entrance to the pool is located on the 1200 block of Upshur Street, just before 13th Street NW after the athletic field.
"I'm really excited that through strong advocacy from our community and my work on the DC budget we were able to fully staff the Roosevelt so it can open to our community,” said Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George when reached for comment. “I want to thank Commissioner Audrey Duckett, former Commissioner Debbie Matties, Chairman Mendelson and his team, and every neighbor who pushed to make this happen. Ward 4 now has a fantastic new year-round indoor pool for residents to enjoy. This is particularly important given that the Takoma Aquatic Center is currently closed for repairs."
Update 2pm: The Roosevelt pool will not have Saturday hours at this time.
