Help shape the new Petworth Main Street by joining their Board
/The Board of Directors of Uptown Community Initiative (aka Uptown Main Street) is recruiting new Board members to join the Petworth Main Street board to represent Petworth. The UMS Main Street programs serve Upshur Street from 8th to 13th Streets, Georgia Avenue between Upshur St and Missouri Ave, Upper 14th Street (from Spring Road to Longfellow Street), and Kennedy Street (from 14th to North Capitol Street).

They are looking for people who have:
A business or personal connection to the designated corridors: upper 14th St (Spring Road to Longfellow St, Kennedy St NW, Georgia Avenue (Upshur St to Missouri Ave) and Upshur St (8th St to 13th St NW).
A strong network, including relationships with property owners, business owners, and the greater Ward 4 community
The ability to attend meetings
Interest in the Main Street model and can attend free National Main Street Center trainings
Have a collaborative and productive attitude to create relationships, fundraise for the organization, plan events, and meet other needs of this working board of directors
Board member skills we are seeking (candidates do not need to meet all of these):
Bilingual or multilingual
Fundraising, grant writing
Event planning
Financial planning
Nonprofit organization
Public speaking
Urban planning, economic development experience
Board Member Position Description
The Uptown Community Initiative board is made up of collaborative community members and business owners who are committed to carrying out the mission of the 501(c)3 nonprofit doing business as (dba) Uptown Main Street (UMS). Becoming a board member is a two-year commitment.
Expectations
Stay continually engaged in board business by preparing for and attending seven board meetings per year and an annual board retreat
Stay continually engaged in organizational activities by contributing to the development and achievement of goals:
Actively chair or participate in one or more committees
Attend National and/or DC Main Street workshops
Actively recruit committee members
Stay continually engaged in the organization's community development activities by building its reputation and network in the community:
Actively meet and develop relationships with business and property owners
Actively meet and develop relationships with community members by attending all organization events as well as other neighborhood events
Actively meet and develop relationships with key stakeholders (Councilmember, MOCRs, ANC Commissioners, public safety officials, etc.)
Stay continually engaged in fundraising activities:
Donate or raise $500/year in unrestricted funds
Create or share UMS content and fundraising asks via personal social media accounts and outreach to your network
Actively seek and identify potential donors and grant opportunities
