The Petworth Library is sponsoring a Young People’s Art Contest for Black History Month. Young people ages 5-19 are invited to participate and share the ways that they feel informed, encouraged and inspired by Black history. Winners will be selected from three categories: teens (13-19), school-age children (9-12), and young children (5-8).

Winning artwork will be displayed at Petworth library. Artists can use any 2D or 3D medium of their choice, such as painting, college or sculpture. The only limit to your imagination is size – the library is asking that no entries are no larger than 12" x 14" for display purposes (3D entries should not be larger than 12" x 14" x 6").

All entries are due by Friday, February 25th by 5pm at the Petworth Neighborhood Library (4200 Kansas Ave NW,).

Be sure to attach a label with the artist’s name, age, school, and contact information.

Cesse Ip moved to DC in 2008, and in 2014 she and her husband decided to make Petworth their home. Petworth is where she found her best friends, her kids’ friends and her “people.” When she’s not working for the Department of Defense or chasing around her two small sons, she enjoys cooking, eating (especially when someone else is doing the cooking), reading and playing Settlers of Catan. A true nerd with two degrees in mathematics, writing came late to her, but she is looking forward to answering your questions about our community!
