Ward 4 Council candidates begin to line up...

Current line-up of the DC Council. Who will stay, who will go in the upcoming election?

Candidates for next year's election for Ward 4 Council picked up their nominating paperwork today from the DC Board of Elections. The primary is set for Tuesday, June 14th, and the election is Tuesday, November 8th. It's a Presidential election this year as well (in case you didn't know), so expect turnout to be high.

So far, there are four candidates who picked up nominating paperwork (pdf):

  • Leon T. Andrews, Jr.
  • Ron Austin
  • Calvin H. Gurley
  • Brandon Todd (the incumbent)

People who want to run for the upcoming election have until March 16, 2016 to get 250 signatures (or 1% of total number of registered electors in the same political party) of people who live in the Ward to be able to get on the ballot.

You can read all the details on the Board of Elections website.

Another Ward 4 Candidates Info website? Right now, I'm not planning on doing another Ward 4 Candidates Information website like I did last year. Last fall we had 20 candidates running for Council to replace Muriel Bowser (who of course was elected Mayor of DC) with Brandon Todd winning the split election with 41% of the vote. If the field gets very crowded I might re-launch the site. We'll see what happens.

Good luck to everyone running!
