Many bullets, no injuries: Overnight shooting at 16th and Varnum
/According to neighbors and MPD, multiple gunshots rang out overnight on April 20th just before 4am near 16th and Varnum Streets NW.
MPD reports a car was driving southbound on 16th Street NW between Upshur and Varnum when another car pulled alongside and began shooting into the first car. The second car then sped off, fleeing the scene. The first vehicle sustained five bullet holes, while the driver, who had been heading into DC to go to work, luckily avoided injury.
MPD states they were able to recover shell casing and are looking for any video recordings from neighbors along 16th near Varnum and Upshur around 3:43am.
According to Ward 4 Councilmember Lewis George’s office, '“MPD believes that this was a road rage incident but that hasn't been confirmed.”

On April 20, 2021, at approximately 03:43 AM Officers responded to Sounds of Gunshots at 16th and Varnum Street NW. A victim was located and reported being shot at while driving his vehicle on 16th Street. The victim was not injured however his vehicle sustained 5 bullet holes. The incident is being investigated by the Fourth District Detective’s Office.
