Georgia Ave businesses can now RSVP for DDOT's Open Streets meetings
/ DrewDDOT and District Bridges are holding a series of six meetings starting August 19th with businesses along the Georgia Avenue corridor who will be impacted by the closure of the road on October 5th for the “Open Streets” project.
If you own a business — or want to be involved — you should plan to attend one of the meetings.

After its inaugural success in 2019, Open Streets returns to Georgia Avenue on Saturday, October 2nd from 10am to 3pm. Three miles of Georgia Avenue — between Barry Place NW and Missouri Avenue — will be closed to cars. Instead, residents can walk, bike, run and scooter in the street. It’ll be the first of a series of Open Streets events that will be held across all eight wards in 2021-2022.
DDOT will close three miles of Georgia Avenue on Saturday, October 5th from 8am until 6pm for their “Open Streets” event, being held from 10am until 2pm.
Bus routes, no parking and towing enforcement will all be affected.
Volunteer for the Open Streets project put together by the Mayor’s office and DDOT on October 5th and help make it a great event for your neighbors. You’ll get swag, a warm feeling of being involved, and will have time to enjoy the event, too!

The DC Department of Transportation’s plan to close three miles of Georgia Avenue for an “open streets” test is set for October 5th. Since the Petworth News articles on the closure raised some concerns, DDOT has agreed to make some changes.
The idea of closing a major road to motor vehicles, opening it up to healthy uses for bikes and pedestrians sounds like a cool idea, so DDOT is closing Georgia Avenue for three miles to test it out.
The concern is how DC is doing it.
DC is closing three miles of Georgia Avenue, from Barry Place to Missouri Avenue NW, in October for an “open streets” initiative. It didn’t quite work out the last time the DC Office of Planning tried to do this in Petworth three years ago, so here’s hoping this is better planned and benefits the community.
