DC is closing three miles of Georgia Avenue, from Barry Place to Missouri Avenue NW, in October for an “open streets” initiative. It didn’t quite work out the last time the DC Office of Planning tried to do this in Petworth three years ago, so here’s hoping this is better planned and benefits the community.

What do safer streets look like? WABA wants to show Ward 4

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) Bike Ambassadors are planning to hit the streets with Ward 4 residents for a mobile traffic safety workshop on Thursday, July 13th at 6:30pm. The workshop will consist of a 5-mile bike ride, and discussion about how to make intersections along the route safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Special attention will be paid to the intersections at 14th and Spring Streets and Georgia Avenue and Kennedy Street.

Ideas flow at "Petworth Placemaking" community meeting

Last week more than a dozen Petworth residents convened at the Library to discuss how our community could successfully host one of DC’s first open streets initiatives next spring. The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and the DC Office of Planning secured a grant for a creative placemaking project and are planning an open streets event in Petworth in Spring 2017.
