How often do you cringe at the amount of single-use plastic in your house? DC startup The Rounds is looking to make last-minute grocery runs and oversized Amazon orders a thing of the past, all white cutting down on all that packaging waste. The company recently announced expanded delivery areas in DC and is excited about its growing list of local partners.
Co-founder and CEO Alexander Torrey said, "Our zero-waste refill and delivery service offers a more sustainable and convenient option for everyday essentials, including pantry staples like pasta, local produce, and even products from local favorites like Compass Coffee and Bethesda Bagels. We know how important a healthy environment is to DC residents, so we're excited that we can now make it easy to go plastic-free in even more neighborhoods in the city and beyond.”
“The Rounds now offers hundreds more products, and even services like composting and SodaStream refills,” Torrey said.
The Rounds’ expanded catalog includes partnerships with more local brands, from Compass Coffee and Bethesda Bagels, to a brand-new selection of cheeses from local favorite Paste & Rind Cheese Co. By partnering with small businesses like Paste & Rind to make their selections available for delivery, Torrey hopes The Rounds will become an important part of the neighborhood routine. “Our local partners have been instrumental in helping us best serve our Members in DC, and their products are some of our most popular every week,” he said. “We love that we can support these businesses by making their products even more accessible to Members around DC!”
A Neighborhood Refill Center in DC employs delivery personnel, or “Rounders”, who bring weekly drop offs to customer doors via electric vans or bikes. Each week, Members of The Rounds can leave their empty reusable containers out for pickup. “This eliminates the need to unpack items and break down boxes, while reducing the environmental impact of long shipping distances,” said Torrey.
After founding The Rounds in Philadelphia in 2019, the company is excited that its recent growth will allow it to help even more households reduce waste at home and live a more sustainable lifestyle with less hassle.
