A crossing guard, Jawan Thompson, was the victim of a hit and run collision on Wednesday, December 20th, and was left with a fractured neck and broken pelvis. There is a GoFundMe campaign to assist Ms. Thompson with her medical bills and recuperation if you are able to help.

The driver left the scene, but was followed by people who managed to get the driver's license plate. Hopefully there will be an arrest soon.

From a listserv post:

On Wednesday, December 20th, West Education Campus' beloved Crossing Guard, Jawan Thompson, was hit from behind by a motorist who did not even stop to see if she was ok.

Jawan fractured her neck and broke her pelvis in four places; she is recovering at Washington Medstar Hospital.  It is a blessing to greet Jawan each morning and afternoon on your way to/from school.  Whether giving you a huge smile and hug, or a dollar bill for your piggy bank when you lost your first tooth, she is thoughtful and caring.  It is overwhelming to think that she was injured so badly while working to keep our children safe. Jawan is a special part of our community, and we want to show her how much we love and appreciate her. She is a single mother to two boys, ages 9 and 12, and any amount you can give will be a huge blessing during these months while she is recovering and not able to work.  Thank you!
