An overview of what to expect at the Celebrate Petworth Festival
/The Celebrate Petworth Festival starts at 11am on Saturday, June 4th along the 800 block of Upshur Street. It's going to be a busy day with events that should please everyone, from kids to adults, from hungry people to those seeking some fitness.
The Kids Stage will be situated on Upshur by 8th Street with some great stage performances by own local Teatro de La Luna and theatrical dance troupe Synetic Theater. Pocket Change Theatre Company starts it off with "Los Dos Burritos."
Come hang out with me at the Petworth History Tent in front of Fia's Fabulous Finds and Bentley's Antiques on Upshur from 11:30am-1:30pm, where I'll be leading a panel discussion with four local residents and scholars who have deep connections to our fair neighborhood, and who will talk about life in Petworth from 50 years ago to today.
Be sure to stop by to watch the exceedingly talented artist Aniekan Udofia paint an original artwork on the windows of the old China American Inn.
The Main Stage will be situated at 9th and Upshur for music performances, including the John Lee Trio, Tarica June and DJ Ayes Cold. Down along 9th Street will be vendors selling food and crafts, along with the Health and Fitness Zone in front of Lighthouse Yoga.
The Dog Show will also be outside Lighthouse Yoga (win a cool prize for your cool pup!), accompanied by the Washington Animal Rescue League who will on hand to answer questions. The Fun Run sponsored by Qualia Coffee starts at 10am on the 800 block of Upshur, and the 3-on-3 basketball championship (that offers scholarships to the young winners) will be at Petworth Park (Taylor Street) from 10am-4pm.
Willow Fashion will have a Carnival experience in front of their awesome little clothing and gift shop.
All of the Upshur restaurants should be open as well.
