BurgerIM brings a million delicious ways to make a burger to Georgia Ave
/by John Argueta
BurgerIM is the new fast food restaurant that opened up in the Park Place building at 3728 Georgia Avenue NW, next to the Petworth Metro. BurgerIM sells gourmet burgers, fries and milkshakes. You can order online on their website or come into its nicely decorated restaurant. It’s a fast-growing food chain with 160 franchises worldwide, with three locations in the DMV area in just less than four years. Their menu of options for how you can make a burger is pretty extensive.
I was walking down Georgia Avenue on a cold fall afternoon and saw BurgerIM’s “open” neon lights illuminating the growing darkness, the “open” flags gusting in the cold Fall air. Hungry, I decided to give it a try.
My take? The burgers are delicious, and unlike McDonald's, you can taste the juiciness of the tomatoes and pickles with the creamy melted cheese. One of their cold yummy milkshakes makes a great complement to their burgers. (I tried the cookies and cream, and you know it’s good when it’s below 50 degrees and you’re still drinking out in the cold.)
Owner Akhtar Rasool has his restaurant decorated with eye-catching designs, like burgers for the restroom doors handles, and a burger-ingredient wheel.
“I have three locations, one in Wheaton, one in Arlington, and now here in Petworth,” said Rasool. He said he chose Petworth because of the Metro accessibility, and felt the area next to the Metro was neglected and a perfect spot for BurgerIM.
“I grew up and Bachelored in electronics in Pakistan,” Rasool said. “Then I went to Master in senior satellite space and communication engineering in Sussex United Kingdom. I moved to America in 2014, and in just four years opened three BurgerIM locations. I feel I accomplished a lot,” he said.
“The people make it easier to adjust to the neighborhood. I met with Petworth representatives to get the permit for BurgerIM, and they were really excited about getting a burger place in the neighborhood.”
Rasool said BurgerIM's first week was a booming success with a whopping 150 orders the first day and 250 orders the second.
“The Spanish beef burger is the best on the menu,” Rasool said. “You’re paying not only for a fresh gourmet burger but also the TVs and clean atmosphere.” Rasool said that BurgerIM is definitely not McDonald’s, and the price of the burgers has to do with the quality of the burger and the restaurant.
Rasool said that the cookies and cream milkshake is the most popular on the menu, selling more than 50 a day.
The service is friendly and warm; just what Petworth needs. The price is definitely worth every bite. I’m a huge burger-fanatic, so not having to wait for a biggie bag is definitely worth it.
BurgerIM should be on your list of places to go eat.
