Petworth Dance Project looks to neighbors to get ready for 2017 season
/As summer approaches (and it is, sooner than we think!), the next season of the Petworth Dance Project is getting organized. Founded in 2015, the Dance series is a complex and expensive program, as it involved professional dance troupes and choreographers from the top studios and companies in the DMV.
Series founder, artist and Petworth resident Sara Herrera has put together a GoFundMe campaign to help raise the funds necessary to keep this culturally important program going this year. Any amount will help this awesome Project alive!
Consider making a GoFundMe donation to help Petworth retain an amazing program unlike any other.
From Sara:
The dance series is a free outdoor performance in the Washington, DC neighborhood of Petworth, featuring the vast array of talent from DC area dance companies and artists.
The Petworth Dance series stage has presented professional dance companies in styles of Contemporary, Modern, Ballet Folklorico, Site Specific, West African, Classical Indian Dance and much more. All with an extensive resume from performances at the White House, The Kennedy Center, across Europe and South America.
In it's first year, the Petworth Dance series conducted master classes, where the community, both dance and non dancers, connected with the artists and learned their particular dance art form. The second year to enhance more awareness of the dance series, Sara, taught summer dance classes during after school summer camp programs to the youth in the Petworth neighborhood and beyond.
The Petworth Dance series is more than just free performances during the summer months but also builds community engagement through the arts and education.
Through this campaign, the Petworth Dance series can begin preparations for their third year. The dance series has been lucky enough to have had materials for their stage donated from Home Depot through the help from Lighthouse Yoga Center, but going into our third year we will need a new stage.
The Petworth Dance series also needs proper use of sound and with the amazing talent of our sound engineer, we would like to keep this level of professionalism going.
The dance artists who put in the time and dedication to each performance they bring to the stage, also needs our support. With the help from Dance Metro DC, the artists are compensated, which is extremely important, but one organization cannot do it alone. Showing your support, with even $5.00, helps to keep this series in motion.
Help jump start the Petworth Dance series 2017 season!
Thank you and see you on the dance floor!
